OVERVIEW


MedX of Estes provides a meaningful experience for interns in a health, wellness and rehabilitation environment. We are a private facility serving a varied population, however the majority of our clientele are 50 years and older.

MedX of Estes is an exercise and physical therapy clinic. The health and wellness program consists of a supervised fitness approach in which exercise staff oversee and train each individual on every workout. Individual exercise prescriptions are designed to help individuals reach health and fitness goals with emphasis on strength, aerobic and flexibility components. The physical therapy program takes care of various conditions and problems such as accidents, diseases, disabilities, post-surgery, spinal problems and sport injuries. Licensed physical therapists and physical therapy assistants will utilize the health and wellness program as well as the help of interns during therapy treatment.



PHILOSOPHY


The philosophy of MedX of Estes is to teach people how exercise can become part of their lifestyle. We focus on exercise for health. Our philosophy is based on current scientific knowledge with regards to exercise training for all health conditions. We provide personalized supervision with positive feedback. Exercise prescriptions are set according to immediate needs of the individual and most commonly focus on the entire body with each workout. Exercise science is a growing part of the health care system, and we have structured our clinic to use exercise to help individuals achieve optimal health.



GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS


  • Interns should be currently enrolled in an accredited university program pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an exercise science related field. Interns must be receiving credit hours for the internship.
  • Interns should have basic core knowledge of exercise science content such as exercise physiology, anatomy and exercise prescription.
  • Internships last an entire semester in duration, commonly 14-17 weeks. Interns are expected to stay the duration of the scheduled internship.
  • Interns need to send a completed intern application with a cover letter, resume and at least two letters of recommendation. Interns are accepted on a rolling basis. Final decisions will be made no later than:

    March 1 for summer semester
    May 1 for fall semester
    November 1 for spring semester

    Internships are occasionally available on short notice due to possible unfilled positions or other extenuating circumstances. Please call about availability if wishing to apply past the dates listed above.
  • Interns should have current CPR and First Aid certifications that last through the scheduled internship dates. Attach a copy of current certifications with the intern application.
  • Interns need to provide all pertinent college internship information to the MedX of Estes internship supervisor.
  • Interns need to carry liability insurance. Often, interns are covered under university programs as a registered student. Contact the university internship supervisor about details of liability coverage.
  • Interns need to be friendly, self-motivated and enthusiastic about working with people. Interns must possess good human relation and communication skills and be capable of maintaining a mature professional relationship with clients and staff of various ages.




  • RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide supervision to exercise clientele.
  • Develop exercise prescriptions for various populations.
  • Carry-out the opening, closing and everyday running procedures of daily clinic operations.
  • Operate the lumbar and cervical extension therapy machines.
  • Assist physical therapists.
  • Lead senior and drug rehabilitation exercise classes.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, behavior and attitude.
  • Maintain high-quality customer service.
  • Maintain and exhibit a healthy lifestyle and serve as a role model to clients.
  • To complete intern assignments.




  • GOALS AND OBJECTIVES


    The goal of the internship is to expose the intern to sound exercise programs that focus on exercise for health benefits and deal with various populations and disease processes such as:

    Elderly Apparently healthy
    Sedentary Obese
    Arthritis Osteoporosis
    Fibromyalgia Cardiac patients
    Hypertension Pulmonary patients
    Cancer Stroke patients
